Directions to Enumclaw from Seattle 

Approximately 41 miles from Seattle to Enumclaw. Drive south on I- 5, take exit 142A to Auburn, follow Hwy 164 to Enumclaw.

Directions to Enumclaw from Tacoma

Approximately 28 miles from Tacoma to Enumclaw. Travel east on Hwy 512, then north on Hwy 167, and east on State Route 410 towards Enumclaw / Chinook Pass / Yakima.

Directions to Naches from Spokane

Approximately 214 miles from Spokane to Naches. Travel West on I-90. Take exit 110 to merge onto I-82 E/US-97 S toward Yakima, Take the US-12 exit toward Naches. Drive 4.5 miles past Naches to the SR 410 / US 12 intersection. Drive straight at the intersection to continue onto SR 410.

Seasonal directions from Portland via Route 12 and 123 (Cayuse Pass)

Approximately 164 miles from Portalnd to the Cayuse Pass intersection with 410. From mid-April through mid-November, take 1-5 north from Portland to exit 68, then Hwy 12 east for 72 miles to the intersection with SR 123. Drive north approximately 16 miles to the intersection with SR 410 at Cayuse Pass, summit elevation 4,675 feet.  If Chinook Pass is open (approx. June - October) you can then drive east towards Chinook Pass or west towards Greenwater, based on personal preference - beautiful either East or West.

Stop at the Forest Service Information Center at the National Park boundary on the west side, between Enumclaw and Mt Rainier. Rainier park entrance 360-663-2245 Staffed some days from Memorial Day to Labor Day Ranger stations are staffed by rangers who can answer questions about the area, road closures, campfire bans, use of trails, etc. Also for sale are a wide variety of maps, recreation access passes, permits and Forest Service related trinkets.

Recreation and Access Passes

Northwest Recreation Pass - for access to US Forest Service lands - required for parking at most of the trailheads

Discover Pass - for access to Washington State parks and facilities.

Mount Rainier National Park Fees and Reservations - Park entrance fee is
not required to drive the Chinook Scenic Byway, just to enter the Mt. Rainier National
Park.

WiFi Hot Spots & Cell Phone Coverage

Much of the Byway is out of cell phone range, unless you've climbed to the top of a mountain!

West side:

• Crystal Mountain Ski Resort has excellent coverage with Verizon and moderate coverage with AT&T, TMobile, and Verizon. A short drive off the Byway up to the resort will put you into cell phone range.
• Crystal Mountain Ski Resort has a WiFi hotspot in the Day Lodge and the Alpine Inn. Guests staying at Whistlin' Jack Lodge in Cliffdell can check their email on the premises.

East side:

• The Nile Valley has pretty good service for Verizon and US Celluar mostly available from Naches to the west end of Nile Road. Coverage is good along Nile Road. 
• AT&T service can be found briefly for about a half-mile near the Nile Library. 
• T-Moblie is building a tower in the Nile Valley, so T-Moble service will be available shortly.
• Gold Creek has public WiFi available for customers (ask host for the password).
• Mountain Momma's does not have public WiFi.

Many of the lodging establihments have WiFi for the use of guests.

Chinook Scenic Byway Map

Traversing Chinook Pass on the north side of Mount Rainier National Park, the Chinook Scenic Byway offers unique beauty and awe-inspiring views. Anchored by majestic Mount Rainier, the corridor traverses the mighty Cascade Range between Enumclaw and Naches along State Route 410. With a diversity of landscape from east to west, a variety of recreational opportunities are available. To the east of Chinook Pass are talus and basaltic rock formations in the Wenatchee National Forest and to the west are dense forests and rich vegetative habitats in the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest.

Throughout the corridor there are many trails that lead from meadows carpeted with flowers to snow capped mountains and glaciers. Opportunities abound for hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, ski-touring, skiing, snowboarding, cycling, horseback riding, animal watching and more. Enjoy this relaxing drive while you journey through your senses. Return when your spirit needs replenishing.
